Thanks for sharing ideas. I am also eager for the prompt!

Does doing everyday, mundane stuff count as creating, too? Like building traps, making arrows and similar?

Art and Elfquest / Re: 2023 Fan Art Calendar - Theme Chit Chat
« on: January 09, 2022, 07:39:05 AM »

I do like the idea that the calendar is kinda planed. Like everyone use a specific color in his contribution (one of many). Or a specific animal somewhere in the back - it could be difficult for Zwoots don't live in the snow and I don't think I could draw such cute lizard. A bucket or hat with feathers somewhere in the back - we could discuse what it will be of course. Or the number ten/twenty somewhere hidden or in the open. Or just set everything in morning or evening light.
To do not only a theme but also the art or setting is a little bit like it belongs together.

For the celebration part I could imagine that there could be Dreamberrys in the picture - and they are growing nearly everywhere Pike has been. They could just be in the picture or the theme of the picture.

I really like this idea of adding a tiny extra challenge to the overall calendar theme/topic.  :)

Um, can anyone point me to a thread that explains how to embed images into forum posts?  When I click onto Attachments an other options, it leads nowhere.
Thanks!

Thanks for the clarification, Yeee!

Apologies for the confusion, Yeee. I just added the website of the official MerMay because i wanted to follow their prompt list (one prompt for each day). I/we do not care about any prices from wacom.  Many artists at social media follow prompt list for mermay. There are LOTS out there on Instagram, for example.
But as Afke pointed out, do whatever you feel like. Post any kind of mermay related art here at Elfquestfanart and post it anywhere else you want. No strings attached.

By the way, I also only use traditional art tools, mainly water colors.  :)

Great idea, Afke! I might give it a go, too.  ;D

And Treefox, great that you also want to join. Yaay!

Art and Elfquest / EQ inspired MerMay anyone?
« on: April 15, 2021, 12:52:51 PM »
I was thinking about participating in MerMay this year. I miss creating characters and illustrating their lives. So I thought this artistic event could spark the muse. And it can be combined with EQ! Bless the sea elves!

The prompt list can be found at mermay.com. 31 prompts, one for each day in May.

I'm not planning to do all 31 prompts or draw dayly. I'd be happy if I'd manage 5-7. Thats my goal. And it would be great to have others join, so we can support each other and cheer each other on.  :)

Just saw the 2021 calendar pics and am amazed. So great that you keep this tradition up for so long. Kudos to the organizers and contributors.
Your art and love for EQ left me feel inspired and nostalgic! Maybe it's time to draw some elves again.

Awe, I was wondering who took up Rainpace when I left (I'm Gina Simpson/Schroeder). Wish I had more time right about now. Darn you River Twine with your consistent awesomeness.
I did!!!  :)
Hi Gina, always enjoyed your art at RTH.

I'll say again, it is too bad you can't have more than one character at RTH.  ;D

I totally agree. I have always been interested in Goldspice (though simply because I like her style) but cannot and will not give up Rainpace. But still, Goldspice has lots of potential...

On the other hand, I doubt I would have the energy to play more than one.  ;)

What if one could not find any colored version of an outfit?
e.g. I could not find any colored pics of all the elves from Wild Hunt/Recognition except for Ember and Teir.

I join the club of "GoT is sooooooo stunning!!"

But when I read the books several years back I did not make the connection wolf -> Wolfrider. Although it is soo obvious! *doh*   ;)

But some criticism of the TV-series here: they show the wolves too seldom!!!

The pic of Teir looks great!  (Although... hey, look, I am a big proponent of "people should draw guys' nipples", but man... those are a little scary.)
Agree!

Georgeous!! All of them!

I am curious: What coloring tools do you use? Especially on the not-inked.

And: Your mermaids have a backside!!!  :D  I really like that.

Teir (olive-skinned, loose-haired Final Quest)

Huh? Is there a pic of him somewhere avaiable? Or do you mean how he looked on the calendar pic with Ember? Don`t know which year it was. The one with the couples (or threesomes).

Um, I was wondering about Sust and Pool... aren`t they too young? I only know them as 12-13 years old (or younger?) in the Wild Hunt.
Do any comics exist whith them older than that?

Or do we get the possibility here to draw them how they might look like as adults?

Art and Elfquest / opaque white
« on: April 08, 2011, 10:10:36 PM »
Well, could anyone recomment a brand of opaque white that covers dark colors really efficiently and does not clump?
I need it more for adding highlights instead of masking inking mistakes.

Thanks!   ;D

Art and Elfquest / Re: [Tools of the Trade] Printer - which to buy?

Thanks to all for sharing their experience with printer/scanner combinations and waterproofed printer ink.

@Silberschweif: hehe, you described exactly the printer I was interested in. ;)

@Obi-Rak Kaeliri:  :o You work in the printing field somehow, don`t you? Never learned so much about printer ink in such a short time. Thanks to you I know now what to look for... not sure if I can afford it, but we will see.

I will post a note as soon as I tried some watercoloring on printed pages. ;)

At the moment I am looking for a printer which includes a scanner (and a copying function), because I would like to have both at home instread only at work. Do you think the quality of both scanner and printer would be less good because it is in one machine? I am not sure about it. Does anyone of you already uses such a printer/scanner?

Something else: Have you ever printed on really thick (>150 g/qm) and/or rough paper, like aquarell paper? Do you think the ink would survive water coloring?

For some odd reason, I find it easier to draw the pictures smaller. When I do a full-page portrait of a face, for example, I find that it tends to skew out of proportion and just overall look really... weird. =P Something I'm hoping to improve with, but there you have it.
Yes, Razzle, exactly my point. :D But therefore I have to pay the price of less detail...

Thanks for the summary of paper sizes, Holly. I forgot about the differences between US and Europe.

And thanks for all the information. :)

Very helpfull thread. Thanks a lot.... I always put too less effort into the first steps and therefore the anatomy if wrong at the end.
I guess I will give this "drawing a body with geometric forms" a try.

I am not sure if it fits into this thread, but I am always curious how big the elves are others draw. Holly, you wrote you fill nearly the whole paper for a figure from head to toe. What size does it have? A4?
I tend to draw my figures way too small (maximal A5) because I strangely believe anatomical mistakes would not be so obvious then. I shy away from using A4 because I fear to lose the overview, the wholeness... ahrg, do not now how to put it. Does anyone understand what I mean? Bigger pics are harder to draw than small ones... for me, at least.
