Title: Foxeye's not-elfquest art
Post by: Foxeye on March 22, 2009, 03:47:10 PM
Just finished up the third in my series of four everquest fae/arasai character, so I figured I'd use that as an excuse to do an art dump of the stuff from the last year that I'm most proud of. ACtually...2007-2008 were such slow years for me, this might be all the stuff I finished. *sad sigh*

Jungle Fire

The picture I drew for our credit cards and personal business cards.

And a bit of character detail.  I started it pretty small, since it would be so scaled down...but I couldn't resist eventually upscaling to give the chars some detail.

EverQuest and EverQuest II

Maegh, aka "Cucumber", is my warden/tailor and my favorite character. She's a bad girl and a free spirit. Hard to say whether she's truly evil or not, but she's definitely good at being a nuisance, trickster, and all-around PITA.

My poor broken-in-the-brain, truly-evil-and-messed-up arasai evil!monk (she's a bruiser, but her personality is more martial artist than pugilist). Sriur is ascetic/focused/tranquil/etc...but that doesn't stop her from killing just about everything in her path. She's a few berries short of a bushel.

Kettu is my fae fury/sage, who I liken to a daniel jackson/indiana jones type. Butt-kicking-for-curiosity-in-ancient-cultures sort of thing. Oddly enough, while she's technically good to Maegh's evil (maegh is the green-haired arasai warden), she's not as friendly as Maegh. She's sort of a 6.5 on the scale of good vs evil (where 5 is a neutral) while Maegh is a 4 who is capable of acts that rank up around 9. This is because Maegh is capable of friendship, and because Maegh gets bored, whereas my fury is a loner who would hate to be distracted from her research long enough to help someone else.

This was a gift for a fellow artist that I've known for several years. Like me, she had a red-haired, half-elven ranger in EverQuest. But where my character was a very low-fantasy sort of persona...scrappy and dirty and grouchy around the edges...Brierlea was a princess. In purple. There was always something deliciously high-fantasy-and-fairy-tale about Brierlea. So I made a point to make her as gloriously, improbably shiny and colorful as I could. Because she's a princess, darnit. She doesn't need to blend into the forest, that's what magic is for!

They are all wonderful! Will you do a computer paint tutorial someday? Pretty pretty please with a dreamberry on top?

Aww, thanks. ^_^

Will you do a computer paint tutorial someday?

I did one many moons ago (http://www.foxeye-art.com/messyportrait_tutorial.php), for GIMP (the free photoshop-replacement), but my coloring methods have evolved a fair bit since then, so another would probably be worthwhile one of these days.

I sometimes wish a bunch of us could get together for some hands-on art-methods exchange.  You can learn so much more that way. (Anyone live near San Diego? :P)

X3 that does sound like fun while I doubt I have much to offer in the sharing of tecniques it still sounds fun a bunch of EQ fans together drawing *mind wanders with the happy image* , though sadly I don't live by there either however I am closer than the Netherlands, but I will be visiting the area for Comic Con I'm really looking forward to that.  ;)

Yee-auld boring full-frontal sketches of our characters from the new MMO Aion.  His character has REALLY BIG EYES...hard to draw him not looking boyish.

Now I want to know their stories :D As much as I love your coloured pieces I love your sketch work just as much ;D

Oh, I've been captivated by the big eyes.

Good challenge, eyes aren't the only parts of the face that tell wether someone's male or female, old or young. :)

I figured it out! It was his hairline...was too high.  And his neck is too narrow.  Inked versions will be following once I scan them.

Inks! Now the area from his hairline to the top of his head is too big. Will fix that when I color. :P

I better explain this one, since I don't know if any of you play Aion.

When our characters stand around, they have idle animations.  Depending on the environment, these change.  When it snows, the females of this species get all excited and seem to be tryingto catch a snowflake on their tongues. The guys just act cold. In the water, the females splash the water around, while the guys keep trying to catch a fish...which promptly wriggles out of their hands.

So I put the female snow animation together with the male water animation to explain why the poor blokes never catch the fish.

Lol, brings back memories of Commander Keen and Boulderdash. :D Except these seem to be more elaborate animations! Had to inspire a picture like this, hehe.

Thanks guy! To be fair, I did not design the costume. ^_^ But just being faithful to what the game artists created was hard enough work that I'm still fairly satisfied with the picture. I'm so lazy with details usually. :P

This is colorful! I guess drawn by me this combination would have hurt the eyes. But you chose wonderful hues that make it look just great. Her attitude and wings are sooo cool!

Ah yes, those group shots remind of my good old RPG times. We used to draw shots like these all the time while playing. Nor as skillfully as you do, though.  ;)
Haven't seen art from you for waaaay too long! Love the shoulder squirrel! Want!
