Mature Bowki

I'm not sure if I should be posting this here or not. I had originally done this for the calendar, but there was a misunderstanding somewhere and the full calendar of the younger Bowki was used as filler (grid) art. So, if I'm not to use this, let me know and I'll take it down ASAP. The art used in the 2014 calendar was Bowki as a young adult, maybe in his 20s; I thought it would be a smoother transition from seeing him as a cub to a young adult, and then this. This is what I envisioned Bowki to look like much older. I know he's been drawn as a true Sun Villager at heart, but I just couldn't see that myself. Looking at Blair's 3 illos, he seems to relish Wolfrider activities. So, I saw him being a hunter and maybe later a protector for the Sun Village, joining the Jackwolf riders. Perhaps after many turns he goes off on adventures of his own with a breakaway Jackwolf rider group. I just couldn't see him being completely agrarian or giving up riding a canine or handling a weapon. I hope you're not disappointed, Foxeye, as this is Daddy!

Still very sexy as an elder, too! Love the outfit and that bow design! The side burns suit him.

I was going to add his jackwolf, but ran out of time. If Carol still wants to add this somewhere, I can quickly do so. Still not sure if I should take this down or not. I have a similar bow, which is where I got the idea, so I suppose it was a bit of cheating. I wanted to keep the outfit sort of stuck between Wolfrider and Sun Village, so I kept the spring green and had the gold/yellow trim. Also thought it would be good to have both silver and gold in his jewelry. Glad you like him!

Yes, I really like to see this interpretation of his elder years. Bowki is one of my favorite characters, hence I tried to draw him in the Calendar myself, but when he looked recognizable, he tried to woo me. I kinda freaked out by that point. While you've maintained Bowki as well as giving him an elder look. I agree with Treefox, those sideburns are way cool.  So is the loincloth, and I'm not big on that stuff. But while I do agree that I cannot see him living an agrarian life, I still think his skin would be a little darker. I think the Jackwolfriders developed a partly going on both night and day routine, not completely letting themselves be locked to one specific day routine. So if his skin had been more tan, then I'd say that it is perfect. But I still bloody love this piece. It is really awesome!

I really like the way he came out.  Bowki's not one of the characters who's VERY familiar to me, I haven't read the bits that he's in very much, but I really love the blend of wolfrider and Sun Village here.  He looks comfortably a part of both worlds.

Startear, I think you're right that he'd likely be a darker skin tone, but it was REALLY hard to tell skin tones with Barry Blair's work. In fact, it was hard to tell anything. Glad you like the interpretation; I really was trying to go for a combination of both Wolfrider and Sun Villager as well as stay true to his look and that of his family. Eregryn, I didn't know much about him, either, except the three or four frames he was shown in Blair's comic. If he was shown anywhere else, I am honestly unaware of it. When he was depicted, he was a cub being trained by Dart to use weapons and ride a canine (again, wolf? Jackal? Hard to say with Blair). After that, he vanishes completely; we really don't know his fate. Again, I'm glad I succeeded in making him look both Wolfrider and Sun Villager.
